While Sofia is not that big, we did find the Arte Hotel well placed for both sightseeing and shopping. We were here to see the sights, but we wanted to spend the last day shopping for clothes. Vistosha Street seems to be the shopping street downtown.
The room we choose was at the front of the hotel and had big bay windows making it quite unique. The room was spacious and quiet -- we slept well every night.
As this was the last stop on our tour, the English speaking staff was quite helpful with our many questions.
In general, the rooms we looked at had some weird colour combinations, but this was by no means confined to the Arte Hotel.

This hotel has great promise - the owner has done a superb job of renovating the building, the rooms have soft comfortable beds and flat screen TVs. The only real problem, and it was a big one, was the air conditioning hardly worked. Unfortunately, this was during the recent heat wave in Bulgaria. The entire hotel seemed to be lacking air conditioning, including the restaurant. The works of art on the walls are interesting, and the staff fairly helpful Breakfast at 10 euros is a rip off - if you want a superb breakfast, head to the nearby Sheraton Hotel Balkan or to Cafe Lavazza on Bul. Vitosha.
